What is Vagabond Kids?

Vagabond Kids is not simply a scaled down version of CrossFit; it is entirely geared and designed for a special population and the specific developmental needs (neurological, cognitive, motor) of that population. The Kids program we offer is the principal strength and conditioning program for many young athletes that we have trained over the years of our coaches experience. It has been implemented by our coaches to ensure kids grow up healthy, strong and have a life-long love of working out thus avoiding the common problems associated with childhood inactivity and obesity. Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Healthy living requires that our kids push, pull, run, throw, climb, lift, and jump, effectively and safely, regardless of whether or not they play athletics. Athletics is a specialized pursuit. Our goal is to support the specialist, but reward the generalist.

We take an approach that will be personalized but will be focused around a small group training session. Each child and teen will benefit from each program that we have to offer. Through our program your child or teen will grow into their physical capabilities through a safe, sound, and effective program. We are not here to make them into hard-laced athletes, but to give them the foundation of how to approach their sport of choice through generalized prepared fitness through inclusive means of training to ensure each and every athlete is taken through a meaningful and safe program. In turn, our focus is to educate your athlete or child, to make them better thinkers in the grand scope of athletics. We truly believe through our program for Kids and Teens, that your child will greatly benefit physically, but also for mental preparation for each owns sport.

A few important reminders to kids and parents:

1. Parents are encouraged and strongly recommended to stay for the entire 30-45 minutes while their child is in class.  Parents are also kindly reminded that the ONLY person who should be coaching the kids is the CrossFit coach running the class.  This is for the safety of everyone and the integrity of the class.  It is fine to encourage your kid during their workout or game, but please refrain from giving them coaching tips or helping them with the movement.  That is Coach Heather’s job.  Please speak with Heather with any issues.

2.  There are a lot of heavy things at the gym!  Parents can remind their kids that nothing should be touched, picked up, or played with unless a CrossFit coach gives them the okay.  Again, this is primarily a safety issue…we don’t want any smushed fingers or broken toes!!!
